Passing through the wrought iron gates (themselves witnesses to thousands of welcomes and farewells over nearly 90 years of history) and passing through the lime and maple trees, one discovers Hotel Real. It is an imposing white building and is itself an historic piece, which was inaugurated in 1917. The hotel was an initiative of Alfonso XIII and where the royal court stayed during the summer in Santander, at the time when a new fashion started: Los Baños de Ola festival, which from this time has become one of the city’s most important events.
Having entered the hotel, if visitors pause for a moment, they will find a variety of spacious and bright salons, with nooks crossed by sunlight which plays with the shadows. Here your guests will be able to relax, chat, read or just simply find a comfortable armchair in which to enjoy the beauty of the bay of Santander.
Hotel Real’s high position means that it has wonderful views of the city, as well as of the Bay of Biscay right up to the horizon, including the bay and across El Puntal bay. These same views have been enjoyed over the years by our illustrious visitors: Severo Ochoa, Rostropovich, Cela, Alberti, Zubin Metha...
Here your 5 senses will come alive, not wishing to miss anything that the Hotel Real offers: the inviting “Theros” Bar, in which you may not even realise that you have spent an entire afternoon without moving from your armchair, or the splendid Terrace, from where it is said that Jorge Sepúlveda wrote the song “Mirando al mar soñé, que estaba junto a ti...”; “El Puntal” Restaurant, which is one of the very few in the region that is a member of the “Cantabria Infinita” Quality Club (and our pianist will make those wishing to have a romantic dinner on Fridays and Saturdays even more entertaining); “La Rosalera”, a glazed salon opening onto a garden (with more than 80 varieties of roses) where you can have a relaxing breakfast choosing from our extensive buffet.
Furthermore, if this oasis of peace, views, light and comfort is still not enough, Hotel Real has built a modern Thalassatherapy Centre in the old coach house with more than 1,400 m2 dedicated to relaxation, fitness and beauty. This Thalassatherapy Centre (Thalassa: sea and Therapy: curing) is one of the few in Spain that base their treatments on the beneficial properties of the sea’s elements: water, seaweed, salt, mud and sand. It also has a Hydromarine Area, a communal area with a dynamic seawater area at 32º, a marine Jacuzzi, a sauna, a Turkish bath, aromatherapy... They provide treatments adapted to your needs and time permitted, as well as new techniques: such as a brown sugar massage or the exclusive 70 minute Real Massage.
